  • Mrs L Clayton – Teacher of History

History is a subject that helps provides us with a firm understanding of the culture in which we live today.  We explore issues at a local, national and international level from the ancient era through to the twentieth century.  This range of history offers us the opportunity to explore different peoples’ perspectives on issues and events and to think critically about the world in which we live.  Our course is carefully planned to give students a broad understanding of the development of British history through time, as well as being able to make links to other societies, cultures and world events.

Teaching students to understand key concepts , such as significance, causation and consequence, help students to be able to ask questions,  to analyse information and then present their viewpoint in a structured way.  Developing these skills throughout the curriculum helps us to create historians who are confident to communicate their views.  Every topic begins with a challenging historical question which is linked to a key historical concept. Lessons follow this same pattern and are based upon a key question to explore and investigate and come to conclusions.

The History curriculum offered allows students to be involved in a range of cultures and encourages an enquiring and critical outlook on the world, with skills that can be applied in other subjects and in their future endeavours.
