  • Tickhill Lions Poster Competition

    18th October 2017

    Each year Tickhill and District Lions hold a free fireworks event, which this year will be held at Tickhill Cricket Club from 5pm on Saturday 4th November. 

    This year they have invited our pupils to design a firework and bonfire safety poster to educate children about the dangers associated with Bonfire Night. They have also kindly offered £50 towards prizes for the winning entries. 

    All completed posters should be handed into the library no later than Wednesday 25th October.

  • Rhymecraft

    18th October 2017

    Rhymecraft is the brand new Serlby Park poetry competition for 7 - 11 year olds with an open theme that will appeal to all ages and abilities. 

    This latest library competition takes imagination to the next level by engaging our pupils with poetry and showing them how to build their poems in Minecraft style.

    It's fun, easy to take part and our pupils could see themselves as published poets. 

    There are great prizes for schools and pupils and a free bookmark and sticker for everyone who enters.

  • Crochet Club

    17th October 2017
    Serlby Park crochet club restarted this half term with a fabulous turn out for the sessions.
    Crochet club will run every Wednesday after school with a new extended time of 2.30-4.00pm.
     
    All pupils are invited to join us! We are working towards some wonderful Christmas projects and are also creating lovely poppies to sell for Remembrance!
     
     
     
  • Macmillan Coffee Superstars!

    On the 29th September 2017, Serlby Park Academy Secondary had their third Macmillan Coffee morning and it was our biggest and best ever! Students rose to the occasion (without the addition of baking powder) with all their bakes and pennies to donate to the worthy Cancer support charity. The hall was packed at break time and lunchtime with staff and pupils willing to make the ultimate sacrifice –to spend some money and enjoy some great bakes!

  • Year 11 and Growth Mindset

    We are proud of our yr11’s taking part in the recent Growth Mindset workshop, working on the challenges they face with the exams they will sit next summer and coming up with their own solutions.

  • Moto in the Community - Writing competition

    We are delighted to announce the launch of our latest library competition, which is supported by our local partner 'Moto in the Community' and the famous children's author Gill Lewis. 

    Pupils in Years 4, 5, 6 and 7 have the chance to write their very own story, which should be no less than 200 words using a selection of 'story starters' provided by Gill Lewis. (These are available from the library).

  • Serlby Park Reading Challenge 2017/2018

    We are delighted to announce the launch of our brand new Reading Challenge.
     
    There are four fantastic new books in each guided colour band for our pupils to choose from including traditional tales, classic fiction, information books, graphic novels, folk tales and even the popular steampunk.
     
    Last year was the most successful yet with 106 pupils achieving 'Gold Level'. We are hoping that even more children will enjoy reading this year and receive a fantastic prize next summer if they manage to read all twen
  • Pete Johnson - Latest Book Launch at Serlby

    We would like to say a huge thank you to Pete Johnson, the award winning author of over 50 books for children, who paid a visit to Serlby Park Academy on the 27th September to launch his brand new book 'How to Fool Your Parents'.
     
    This was a very prestigious event for Serlby Park Academy, as we were chosen as the venue for a new book launch by this well known, international author and we look forward to working with Pete and his publishers again.

  • Collaborative Banners

    It is very exciting to see our collaborative banners are starting to be put up around school!
     
    Towards the end of last year, year 7 and 8 pupils were involved in a large Art and English project. Pupils wrote inspiring sentences that they would like to see around school.
    After some tough deliberation, pupils selected 3 key sentences to be made into banners for our school.

  • 'A Street Cat Named Bob'

    Congratulations to all the winners in our latest library competition, which was inspired by the heart warming story of Bob the homeless cat by James Bowen.
     
    This delightful and thought provoking picture book was voted Serlby Park's favourite children's book in 2015 and has once again proved to be a firm favourite with our younger pupils.
    Well done to everyone who took part and created their very own 'street cat'.
     
     
  • Bookbuzz 2017

    27th September 2017

    Bookbuzz 2017 was launched in the library this week to all our pupils in Year 7 and 8

    Once again the children’s charity ‘Booktrust’ have carefully selected a fantastic collection of twelve children’s books which our Year 7 and 8 can choose from to read and keep.

     The books will be funded from this year’s library budget.

    The books are available to school at the reduced cost of £3.00 per book.

     

  • Peer Mentoring

     Introduction

    Our Peer Mentoring Scheme was set up in April 2017and from then it has gone from strength to strength.

    In the summer term Year 9 students are invited to apply for the role of “Peer Mentor” and following a rigorous interview process 12 are selected. They then take part in various training sessions in order to develop their skills and prepare them for their Peer Mentoring roles.

    On 18th September, our Post 16 students met with Debbie Burton, Partnership and Engagement Officer from Doncaster Council.  Debbie led a presentation on The Doncaster Youth Council.

    The Youth Council are a diverse group of local young people (aged 11-19) who want to ensure the voices of the young people in Doncaster are heard.  They provide a forum for young people to have a voice on the things that matter, highlighting issues that affect young people.  The Youth Council represent and communicate the views o

  • Super Mums – Thankful Thoughts

    This was the week many of our primary pupils have been waiting for.

    The Super Mums poetry book finally arrived in school. 

    During the summer term our primary pupils took part in a library competition to write a poem about their ‘mums’

    Fifty-six of our pupils were lucky enough to have their poems published in this lovely anthology. Some mums even had their photographs published alongside the poems.

    Well done to everyone who took part!

    More poetry competitions will be launched by the library later this term.

     

     

  • Bookbuzz 2017 comes to Serlby Park Library

    There was great excitement in our library today for year 7 pupils.

    Bookbuzz is a reading programme which gives our pupils the opportunity to choose and keep their own book from a list of  twelve specially selected titles

    The aim of Bookbuzz is to encourage students to read for pleasure and get them excited about books and reading.

    First Day Back - Opening Times

    Wednesday 6th September

    Nursery start time 8:30am

    Year 7 start time 8:30am

    Primary doors open for reception to Year 6 at 8:40am and close at 8:50am

    Years 8 to 11 start at 9:00am

    Note: Any secondary students needing to catch the school bus can do so at the normal time and will be supervised in school.

    Thursday 7th September

    School open as normal for all years.

  • GCSE Results Day Arrangements
